In accordance with ITU-T Recommendation E.164 the maximum length of the international number is 15 digits. The maximum length of an international number in the Republic of Croatia is 12 digits. The maximum length of a national number in the Republic of Croatia is 9 digits. 3 Short codes
Short Codes are used for access to emergency services, services of social value, directory enquiry services, special services of public interest, and for access to competitive services of operators. A Short Code may consist of one part (Service Identifier) or of two parts (Service Identifier and Operator Code), as illustrated in image 6.
The length of Short Codes is three to five digits, and, in special circumstances (insufficient capacity) it may even be six digits.
The first digit of a Short Code is „1“ or „9“, with „9“as the first digit being reserved for future needs (data services and the similar) and „1“ being used as the first digit for other types of services. The Short Code is selected on the basis of the following formula: 1ABCD, where: A=2,4,6,7,8; B,C,D=0,…,9.
Short Codes are established by this Plan implemented by the operators directly into their network and may not be used for any other purpose except in the manner provided for in this Plan.
In addition, operators may use Short Codes without a decision adopted by the competent regulatory authority provided that such codes are used exclusively in the operator’s network and for services available only to this operator’s users, and that they are used in accordance with the Numbering Plan, that is, with the codes established in this Plan.
Access to emergency services and directory enquiry services as part of the universal services package must be ensured from all geographical numbering areas of all public telephone networks and from the numbering areas of mobile electronic communications networks by means of local dialling procedure.
The access to the directory enquiry service must be ensured from all numbering areas of public telephone networks of those operators who have been allocated the Short Code for the provision of this service.
When using carrier selection service, service identifier, operator code and the desired national, or international number must be dialled (for example, 1021 023 XX XX XX). Service identifier and operator code do not form a part of the international number.
